Samuel enlisted in the 5th Tennessee Infantry, Co. D on February 25, 1862 at age 25. His brother-in-law Thomas Coker (age 35) also enlisted in the same Company. He mustered out of service on 1865. The 5th Tennessee Infantry was organized in Barbourville, Ky. in 1862 and saw action at Cumberland Gap, the East Tennessee Campaign, the Atlanta Campaign, Franklin, Nashville, and Wilmington, N.C. The regiment suffered severe casualties during the Battle of Resaca, Georgia and was engaged in the battle near the Carter House cotton gin during the Battle of Franklin, TN. My GG Grandfather. |

Alex enlisted in the 11th Kansas Cavalry, Co. L on Mar 8, 1864. He mustered out on Sep 26, 1865. Company stationed Ft. Riley. Duty guarding telegraph lines and operating against Indians. Moved to Fort Halleck, protecting stage route from Camp Collins, Colorado. Lana's GG Grandfather. |
